TOLEDO -- Connect Ohio and the YMCA of Greater Toledo have partnered to offer the Every Citizen Online (ECO) free basic computer and Internet training program. Through this collaborative effort, area adults are learning how to connect in ways many of us take for granted. Participants of the program are also eligible to take advantage of discounted Internet service and computer purchases.
"As an ECO partner organization, we’re excited to be able to offer community residents, Y-members, and our staff members beginner computer training classes," said Carla Szczechowski, director of information technology for YMCA/JCC. "In addition, youth participants in the Youth Opportunities Program will benefit by utilizing the 20 new ECO computers to advance their resume writing skills and gain the necessary computer skills needed for today’s job market."
The computer and Internet basic training is being presented through the YMCA’s Adult Computer Learning Program. ECO is a natural fit for the program’s education services, with coursework that includes 6-hours of training covering computer basics, an introduction to the Internet, and an overview of the many benefits of using the Internet.
Toledo area adults taking advantage of the ECO training are eligible to receive home broadband service specials (as low as $10/month) and discounts toward computer purchases (starting at $119) from partner companies supporting the broadband training initiative.
Classes are forming now and will take place at the YMCA of Greater Toledo Metropolitan Office, 1500 N. Superior, Toledo and at the Eastern Community YMCA, 2960 Pickle Road, Oregon.
Adults can register by calling (419) 729-8135.
