OHP makes big bust of fake purses

Ohio State Highway Patrol kicked off April with another big bust on the Turnpike. 

Two men from Chicago are now facing felony charges after troopers recovered 81 counterfeit handbags and other merchandise from their vehicle. 

Authorities believe the items seized are worth nearly $50,000 on the street.

Troopers say they found the items during a traffic stop for a 2002 Cadillac Deville.

The vehicle was pulled over near milepost 79, on April 1st, and during a search of it officers found the merchandise in the trunk and passenger compartment .

Troopers seized the a total of 19 wallets, 13 belts, 21 pair of sunglasses, 12 pair of jeans and 88 Coach labels.

The merchandise included designer brands such as Louis Vuitton, Michael Kors, Gucci, Chanel, Sorrentino, Tory Burch, and Dooney and Bourke.

Officials say that both men arrested admitted that the merchandise was counterfeit and said it had been purchased in New York for resale in Chicago.

The driver, Courtney Shelby, 26, and passenger, Steven McGee, 35, both of Chicago, Illinois, were incarcerated in the Ottawa County Jail and charged with trademark counterfeiting, a fifth-degree felony.

If convicted, each could face up to one year in prison and a $2,500 fine.
