A Toledo woman  who allegedly attacked and bit an E.R. nurse at the Toledo Hospital pleaded not guilty to assault charges on Friday.

According to the Toledo Municipal Court affidavit, 30-year-old Tiffany Cox bit nurse Wanda Redfox on the arm while trying to leave with the child. She was arrested on Thursday and charged with assault.

Sgt. Joe Heffernan, a spokesman for the Toledo Police Department said that interviews conducted with the victim and witnesses indicated that Ms. Cox was merely trying to comfort a crying child. The child's mother, seeing a stranger approach her child, was alarmed. The E.R. nurse attempted to return Ms. Cox to where she belonged when Cox allegedly attacked her.

She is being held in the Lucas County jail on a $1 million bond.
