MONROE COUNTY, MICH. -- Two separate home invasion cases on Oct. 19 didn't stay unsolved for long--On Wednesday at 10 a.m., Deputies Robert Blair and John Bills responded to a home in Indian Trails as two subjects attempted to gain entry to the home through an open window. Both suspects, one from Newport and the other from Monroe, were taken into custody and lodged at the Monroe County Jail for home invasion without further incident.

Preliminary investigation indicates the suspects may be been involved in other home invasions in the area that were reported earlier in the year. As a result, a search warrant was executed at one of the suspect’s home during which time, evidence from other home invasions was recovered.

Another concerned citizen called the Monroe County Central dispatch at 8:02 a.m. on Thursday to report the sighting of Michael Kelly Sutherland, a suspect in a home invasion on U.S. Turnpike, in Berlin Twp. As members of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene, Chief Larry Chambers of the South Rockwood Police Department located suspect Sutherland and took him into custody without incident.

Sutherland was lodged in the Monroe County Jail and is facing charges for attempted murder and home invasion, based on the fact that he attempted to strike the witness with his vehicle while fleeing the home. He is currently on parole for home invasion.

Both cases remain under investigation by authorities.
