WATERVILLE TWP -- The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a serious injury crash that occurred Monday evening at 4:13 pm just outside of the Village of Whitehouse at Weckerly Road and Eber Road.
Joseph Phillips, 53, of Toledo was traveling westbound on Weckerly Rd in his 1997 Buick Skylark when he went left of center striking Richard Lippert, 48, of Toledo in his 2008 Dodge Ram pick-up.
Phillips was extricated from his vehicle and transported via Promedica Air Ambulance to Toledo Hospital. He suffered multiple injuries and is serious condition. Lippert received minor injuries and was treated at St. Lukes Hospital.
"Anytime you hear that life flight is going to be coming, obviously you know that you have a serious injury," said Lieutenant John C. Altman, "You just worry that there are no serious loss of life."
Phillips' injuries are consistent with not wearing a seat belt. A beer can was on scene near Phillip's vehicle, but Lt. Altman said that it was too early to determine whether he had been drinking. Lippert was wearing his seatbelt and had not been drinking.
The crash remains under investigation.
