TOLEDO -- Chrysler's plans to expand the Toledo North Assembly Plant will first require air pollution permits from the Ohio EPA. Tonight, the Toledo Division of Environmental Services and Ohio EPA will hold a meeting to explain the draft air pollution permits and listen to public comments.

The main concern behind the plant's expansion plans are the increased emissions, including an extra 8.02 tons of carbon monoxide, 9.75 tons of nitrogen oxides and 0.34 tons of sulfur dioxide needed to accommodate the new 2013 model year platform.

The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the West Toledo YMCA Auditorium on Tremainsville Road. Attendees will be able to submit comments about the draft permits and learn how the plant will abide by the Clean Air Act. The maximum allowable emission levels are designed to protect human health and the environment, and the Ohio EPA said in a release that it remains committed to these standards.

Plant documents show the larger plant could produce as many as 327,000 vehicles per year. Toledo North Assembly Plant, which makes the Jeep Liberty and Dodge Nitro, produced approximately 92,000 vehicles in 2010.

Do you support Chrysler's plant expansion, despite increased emissions in the air? How do you want the plant to remain responsible for their output? Do you think the Ohio EPA and TDES is doing enough to regulate air pollution? Weigh in our comments section below.
