TOLEDO, OHIO -- Toledo Police may have inadvertently solved a couple cases of burglary after an East Toledo teen was shot by his grandfather Thursday evening.
Authorities responded to 423 1/2 Oak St. around 7:30 p.m. on a report of a person shot. When they arrived they found Dayquon Brown, 17, laying on the front porch suffering from a gun shot wound to the leg.
The teen's grandfather, Leroy Cleveland, 58, was taken into custody and charged with felonious assault. Cleveland told police he pulled out a shotgun and fired at his grandson as the two argued during a card game inside the home.
Brown was transported to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
As officers were taking evidence from the crime scene, a neighbor began yelling, according to a police report. The neighbor told police that the backpack officers had taken as evidence from the residence and were about to place in a patrol car belonged to his daughter. He stated the packpack was reported stolen in February. Another neighbor approached and asked the officer if his flat screen television that was stolen a few days ago was also inside the Oak St. residence.
After informing a detective at the scene, the officer stated there was infact a flat television that met the neighbor's description inside the residence. The neighbor was also able to provide a contract to prove the property was the same item he reported stolen days before.
Inside the home, officers also found a laptop belonging to a neighbor which had a photo of the neighbor and his daughter as the screen saver. All stolen property located in Thursday night's incident has been returned to owners.
Warrants have been issued for two suspects in connection with the stolen property. Brown and Keedra Johnson, 38, are both charged with receiving stolen property.
