TOLEDO, OHIO -- The University of Toledo is making history in its efforts to educate those in the field of healthcare.

The school's leaders have signed a major clinical education and research grant with ProMedica Health Systems.  The agreement will allow education resources of both groups to become closer.  Students at UT will be able to focus and travel as a part of specialty programs.

Officials say there will be more opportunities for patients as well.

Dr. Jeffery Gold, UT Provost for Health Affairs, says the partnership will allow patients to engage in clinical trials which will also lead to economic development, jobs, and prosperity for the community. "It also relates to the research opportunities so patients and families won't be leaving the community," said Dr. Gold. "So, it's great for both organizations."

The agreement will go into effect beginning July 1, 2010.
