You may have seen it driving under I-75 on Broadway in the old south end.
A few rolls of paint and some fine tuned strokes of a brush have turned an urban canvas, often used for sloppy graffiti, into a masterpiece.
“The thought behind this was to do something nice for the city of Toledo to give back to the city,” said BGSU Professor and artist Charlie Kanwischer.
Kanwischer and fellow BGSU professor Gordon Ricketts started painting the I-75 underpass at Broadway a week and a half ago with the goal of representing the Latin roots and culture that’s engrained in this community.
Today they finished the project and its turning a lot of heads.
“It'll wake a lot of people up, you know. People can look at it and see themselves,” said Charles Troutman, a passerby.
It took several local and nationally known artists about $10,000 and a year to plan, but the hope is that this vision will spread and drivers can find more murals like this all throughout the glass city.
