TOLEDO -- Families of Lucas County victims are taking a stand against convicted killers in response to National Crime Victims' Rights Week.

Local families who have lost a loved one to murder find it difficult to understand that murderers can serve time so close to their homes.

Lucas County Prosecutor Julia Bates is calling for convicted felons to be moved to prisons outside of the cities they committed their crimes.

She says they hope to raise awareness to create a change for the victims.

"These family members walk, and drive, and live so near to the Toledo Correctional Center where they house the people who have taken the lives of their very children. And it's just one more piece of victimization, one more piece of anguish, one more piece of pain that these victims have to endure." said Bates.

The victims' families will be collecting signatures in order to submit a petition to the Department of Rehabilitation and Correction.
