COLUMBUS, OHIO -- Ohio Special Olympics athletes will compete in championship basketball games on Saturday at Ohio State University and Hilliard City Schools in Columbus.

Thirty teams competed in semi-final and final rounds in nine divisions to advance to the State Championships today. The games start at 9 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

The Individual Skills Contest, held Saturday starting at 9 a.m., involves individual competition in basketball-related skills, such as dribbling, passing and free throw shooting. The Skills Contest is held at Darby High School.

All Special Olympics Ohio events are free and open to the public.

Special Olympics Ohio provides year-round sports training and competition opportunities for adults and children with intellectual disabilities, giving them opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage and experience joy as they participate in the sharing of gifts and friendship with their own families, their peers and the community. Currently, Special Olympics Ohio serves more than 23,000 athletes throughout the state.
