TOLEDO -- New information about a fatal stabbing on the University of Toledo campus in December.
According to a toxicology report from the Lucas County Coroner's office, synthetic drugs are confirmed to be involved in the stabbing that left 20 year old U.T. student Josiah Galat dead.
Galat and another student 19 year old Erik Littleton were fighting inside their room at the international house dorms December 19th. Galat was found dead at the scene. Littleton suffered multiple stab wounds. Blood tests from Galat reveal he tested positive for a synthetic drug called 25i. The drug found in Galat's body is considered a synthetic substance similar to spice.
According to the Drug Enforcement Administration, abuse of 25i can lead to violent physical and mental episodes and deaths have been recorded in states like Louisiana and North Dakota.
That drug is described by University of Toledo Police Chief Jeff Newton as the latest designer drug similar to LSD, "you're at risk of organ failure and also it produces violent tendencies and strong hallucinations in individuals," explains Newton.
U.T. police could not say whether Littleton also had the hallucinogen in his system. Police say the drug did contribute to the fight. U.T Police Chief Newton says an ongoing investigation into the fight continues and could not say when that will wrap up.
