OREGON, OHIO -- After battling flames for two hours, Oregon firefighters confirmed 10 therapy horses died in a barn fire early Thursday.

The fire started at Vail Meadows Equestrian Center, located in the 6100 block of Cedar Point Road, near Maumee Bay State Park.

According to Oregon Fire Chief Edmund Ellis, the fire started around 3:30 a.m., but by the time crews arrived to the scene, the barn was engulfed in flames.

There were no reports of human injuries, but fire crews said the barn was a total loss.

According to Vail Meadows' website, the center offers therapy riding services for children with disabilities, soldiers coming home from deployment and team building events. Just hours after the fire, community members scheduled a 5K fundraiser race for May 25 to help the non-profit group.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
