A Sylvania woman has turned her passion for candle-making into a new business on Main Street.

Jacquie Olender cut the ribbon and opened the doors to Heaven's Gate Soy Candles on Wednesday. The new owner says she used to have a spot at the farmer's market, but wanted to have a place to call her own.

Not only is the new shop locally owned, but the products are locally made: Olender says each of her soy candles made with fragrances produced in Ohio, and the glass is produced at Libby, a Toledo-based glass company. Every candle is hand poured on-site.

Olender prides her business on being "green" - and recycles glass from her customers.
