Owens students are ready to show they have what it takes to be the best at making the world a greener and more beautiful place as well as growing the food we all need to survive.

Owens Community College’s Landscape Turfgrass Management and Urban Agriculture Club will be sending 15 students to Auburn, Alabama for this year’s PLANET Student Career Days Event.

The event brings together close to 800 students from over 60 of the top horticulture programs in the nation and some international schools as well.

In previous years Owens has placed in the sweet sixteen amongst all schools and have recently been ranked as high as the third amongst other two-year programs from across the nation.  Last year the Owens professor Chris Foley received the National Educator of the Year Award and the school also received the Walter Peeples Award for the best team spirit when it was hosted at Kansas State.

The event is sponsored by leaders within the green industry like STIHL, Ariens Gravely Stern, John Deere, and Caterpillar to name a few.  It is a five day event that includes a massive job fair with opportunities for our students to find work with the top companies in the nation, 28 competitive events in a wide range of areas from Landscape Design, Plant Identification, Business and Sales, Equipment Operation, and Landscape Installation, and students also attend professional workshops and tours to open their horizons.
