OREGON -- Oregon School Board president P.J. Kapfhammer will be arraigned Monday on charges related to an altercation he had with a man with autism.
Kapfhammer was charged with menacing and disorderly conduct after he reportedly raised his voice at 25-year-old Thomas Blachowski while trying to find out what he was doing in the Clay High School gym last month.
The school board president admitted to yelling at the man, but says it stemmed from a misunderstanding.
"I didn't know he was autistic at all. I wanted to know why he was there and when I approached him, he wouldn't look at us," Kapfhammer told WNWO during the phone interview.
According to court documents, Kapfhammer faces a maximum sentence of 30 days in jail and a $250 fine for menacing. For the disorderly conduct charge, he faces a maximum fine of $100.
