TOLEDO -- A mother accused of killing her newborn baby and then putting it in a freezer is facing up to life in prison after pleading guilty to the crime.

Kenisha Pruitt, 21, pleaded guilty in a Lucas County courtroom Friday to a charge of aggravated murder.  Charges of abuse of corpse and tampering with evidence were dropped as part of a plea deal. Pruitt was sentenced to life in prison.

In April 2012, Pruitt's newborn baby was found  by a landlord in a freezer at home on Paine Ave. The baby boy, later determined to have been submerged in water and strangled, wrapped in a towel before being placed in the freezer.  

Pruitt lived at the home with the baby's father, Antonio Cervantes, who has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, tampering with evidence, child endangering, and abuse of a corpse. According to The Blade, Pruitt admitting in court to having given birth to the boy inside the home. The couple then together terminated the child's life.

The case against Cervantes is pending.

Pruitt will be eligible for parole after 20 years.
