TOLEDO -- Secor Road is one of Toledo's major roads. Now construction plans have business owners concerned about what it will do to their bottom line.

"It's going to be tough. I'm sure everybody is worried about it," says Pete Hui, owner of Al Smith's Place, a restaurant on Secor and Executive Parkway.

"I'm sure it's going to impact one way or another, but many in a sense when a lot of customers are going to be coming in and hopefully a detour to get in one way or another," explains Hui.

While detours and alternative roads may work for Hue's business, that's not the case on the other side of Secor Road, "The area were in right now is that there's only 1 way in and out of this, so there's going to be a point in time when they're going to have to take care of the road that's in front of that entrance and I'm just wondering what that's going to mean for our business ?" asks Charmaine Bassett-Trimm, owner of Anyana-Kai, a health clinic and spa.

For the stores located inside the Executive Marketplace Shopping Center. People like Bassett-Trimm are scrambling for anything for options that work, "we've thought about some other options like tearing down a fence in the back and re-routing people through the neighborhood. I don't know if the people in the neighborhood are going to be too happy about that, but I mean we have to come up with some solutions," explains Bassett-Trimm.

This project could begin as early as March. The project will cost $5.5 million with $3.6 million coming from the state and $1.9 million from the City of Toledo, "many businesses are going to take a big hit and customers that need certain products or care," says Bassett-Trimm.

Some business owners are optimistic about the upcoming construction,"I think it's a good thing that they're doing right now. It's going to help in the long run I think little bit of short term pain, but in the long run, everybody's going to be happy with this," says Hui.

The city wants construction to wrap by November before the holiday season begins.
