Toledo Police are investigating a chain-reaction injury crash that resulted from an on-duty law enforcement official running a red light Wednesday morning.
Police say Lucas County Sheriff's Deputy Sgt. Molly Mason was behind the wheel of her patrol vehicle headed northbound on Douglas around 9:15 a.m. Sgt. Mason looked down briefly, according to police, and did not notice the traffic signal at Berdan Ave. had turned red. The patrol vehicle collided with a vehicle travelling westbound through the intersection on Berdan.
Upon impact, the second vehicle was propelled into a fence at a private residence along Berdan. Sgt. Mason's vehicle then crashed into a third vehicle stopped at the red light in a southbound lane of Douglas.
Five vehicles were involved before the incident was over. The only injury reported was to Sgt. Mason. She was taken to a nearby hospital as a precaution.
Southbound lanes of Douglas were closed for a little over an hour as crews worked to clear the scene.
Police have not said if any charges are being filed in the incident.
