NEWPORT, MI -- The Monroe County Sheriff Office made one arrest, on Tuesday, following a home invasion on the 7000 block of Labo Road in Berlin Township.

Authorities say that a concerned neighbor first spotted the suspect, walking around the victim's home, and then called one of he neighbor's relatives to report what was happening.

That relative then went to the victim's home, with a friend, and saw a white man running from the property.

The pair then followed the suspect's vehicle, to the 7000 block of Center Street in Estral Beach, as they called 911 to report what happened.

Using that information, Deputy Todd Sulfaro and Deputy Brian Francisco were able to catch up with the suspect and take him into custody.

The suspect has not been named but was identified as a 21-year-old Newport man.

Police say that during an interview, with the suspect, he admitted to the home invasion and confessed to other home invasions in the surrounding area.

The property stolen from the Labo Road crime was also recovered and returned to the homeowner.

The suspect is now being held at the Monroe County Jail and will be charged with multiple counts of home invasion.

Authorities are asking anyone has any with information on the crimes to contact Detective Joe Hammond at 734-240-7765.
