POINT PLACE -- As Congress begins anther round of deficit reduction and budget negotiations, Northwest Ohio seniors will gather at Friendship Park Senior Center on Wednesday to protest cuts to Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security.

ProgressOhio and the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare will host the event at 1:30 p.m. to give seniors the chance to urge Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH) and Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) to protect the social safety net for beneficiaries.

"Ohio's seniors demand that our U.S. Senators do their part to shield seniors and working families from devastating cuts to Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security by requiring corporations and the richest 2% of Americans to pay their fair share of taxes," wrote Denise Gatesi, a representative for ProgressOhio.

The group also calls on Ohio's senators to support improvements to Medicare that lower costs without hurting seniors and disabled beneficiaries.

The protest takes place at 2930 131st St. in Point Place.
