TOLEDO -- In the new year, gym memberships are a very popular item for people looking to change their life style.

But before you sign that contract, lawyers like Lee Pizzimenti, law professor at the University of Toledo School of Law urge you read the fine print, "is there a sign up charge? what sort of fees would you have to pay if you decided not to continue? how many of the things offered are part of the package will you have to pay extra for?" says Pizzimenti.

Not asking questions like this could result in paying hundreds of dollars stuck in a contract that could last for years.

Pizzimenti adds you need to get everything in writing. Never take verbal agreements and expect they will be delivered.
