TOLEDO -- Students and teachers at the University of Toledo were engaged in heated conversations across the campus about a list of proposals submitted by the administration aimed at reducing a projected $30 million budget deficit next year. UT is proposing increasing the number of students in undergraduate classrooms to 30 and in graduate classrooms to 15. Junior Brandon Collins of Toledo is concerned about more students in the classroom. "If classrooms become saturated you are not getting enough focus from your professor and not getting the attention to learn what you need to learn," Mr. Collins said.
The union that represents UT professors, UT-AAUP, has responded by saying the "mandate of 30 undergraduate students per class and 15 graduate students per class is dead on arrival."
