TOLEDO -- The Toledo Walleye dined on its namesake Wednesday, as the hockey team sat down to a walleye fish fry.

The team dined on the regional white fish in the Aquarium banquet hall at the Huntington Center. Players piled their plates with a crisp, golden-fried serving of walleye, which many experienced for the first time.

"I think it was good," said first-timer Doug Clarkson. " The Ontario native added, "I'm usually eating halibut or something like that, but that was really good today."

Fellow left-winger Stephon Thorne said he also enjoyed the walleye meal.

"Even though it tasted a little like every other fish I enjoyed how they made it, and I'm glad I got to experience it," said Thorne. He joked, "I hope it's good for us because the organization gave it to us!"

Walleye General Manager/President Joe Napoli said the organization decided to host the luncheon because he was "Surprised at how many players had never tried walleye."

The Walleye currently sit in 3rd place in the North division of the ECHL. They return home to the Huntington Center on January 25th to take on the Kalamazoo Wings.
