PORT CLINTON -- Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers freed a Port Clinton man and woman from their vehicle with the jaws-of-life after they crashed off State Road in Ottawa County early Sunday.

According to the patrol, 31-year-old Roy Cox was traveling west on State Road near Gypsum when he lost control on a right curve and traveled off the road. The vehicle then flipped and struck an iron beam of a billboard.

Neither Cox nor his passenger, 29-year-old Casey Wadsworth, were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. Emergency personnel used the jaws of life to extricate both from the car and they were transported to area hospitals for incapacitating injuries.

Authorities report that alcohol is believed to be a factor. No charges have been filed and the crash remains under investigation.
