NORTHWOOD -- Police respond to the call for someone in need all the time. On Saturday the need was for kids at risk of not having a real Christmas holiday.

The annual "Cops and Kids" shopping event helps children whose families have financial difficulties. The event took place at the Meijer store in Rossford.

Over one hundred kids were paired with an officer and given a $100 dollar gift card to spend.

"You meet some of the toughest police officers you're ever meet and see them getting a little teary eyed and a little chocked up when they take a needy kid Christmas shopping," explains Northwood Police Sergeant Doug Hubaker.

The Wood County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #109 hosted the event which had officers from every county of the area involved.
