Dogs driving cars: must see video!

We knew you wouldn't want to miss this!  Dog handlers in New Zealand say they have trained dogs how to drive cars.

Yes, according to New Zealand TV station Campbell Live, for the past two months, animal trainer Mark Vette has been teaching dogs to drive. Of course, the obvious question is 'why?'  The lessons are part of a campaign by the New Zealand Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), meant to clear up "common misconceptions" about rescue dogs.

And, well, the video is quite impressive. After weeks of indoor training, the 3 canines were finally allowed behind the wheel of a real car. With a little help from their handlers, the dogs show they are able to put the car in gear, hit the accelerator and start driving. The dogs can even steer the cars when told.

And, although this just proves that you can teach an old dog new tricks, please don't put your dog behind the wheel.  This is a quintessential "don't try this at home/in your car" story."  The car that was used was modified to accommodate the unique needs of a canine driver.
