Turbines to speed! Barrett-Jackson will auction the original 1966 Batmobile from the Batman television series at its 42nd annual event in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Batman's iconic crime-fighter was originally a 1955 Lincoln Futura concept car, modified by legendary customizer, George Barris. In 1965, 20th Century Fox and Greenway Productions contracted Barris to produce the car for the new Batman series, starring Adam West as the caped crusader. He was given only 15 days and a $15,000 budget.
“The 1966 Batmobile by George Barris is one of the most famous Hollywood cars in history and it has become a true icon that has been carried from generation to generation of Batmobiles to follow,” said Craig Jackson, Chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson.
According to specs denoted in the press release, "The car features a 390-in 1956 Lincoln V-8 engine and a B&M Hydro Automatic transmission." It also features a plethora of bat-gadgets in the cabin.
The Batmobile is expected to go for millions when it is auctioned on January 19. Utility belt and Robin not included.
