Wood Co. family escapes early morning fire

WESTON -- A Wood County family escaped a fire in the middle of the night after they were woke up to the sound of a smoke alarm.

The flames broke out around 1am Monday morning at a home on Milton Street in Weston.   The mother and her five children were able to get out unharmed.

The cause of the fire is not known but it started near the water heater and furnace.   Damage is estimated between $40,000 and $50,000.

The American Red Cross is assisting the family.
