NORTHWOOD -- For the 12th consecutive day workers at the Hostess Bakery in Northwood were on the picket line. Last week the company announced that the strike was forcing it to close for good. But a federal judge has temporarily denied the liquidation request and ordered management and the union representing workers to return to the bargaining table. Stan Labuda, Business Agent for Bakers Local 19 is not hopeful that a resolution will be reached. "To take the reductions that management is looking for would be to reduce the job to just above a minimum wage job," Mr. Labuda said.
Mark Popovich, who has worked at the Northwood facility for 21 years was happy to hear that a judge has ordered the two sides to return to the negotiating table. "We hope that it is resolved so that we can all go back to work like we did two weeks ago like we were doing two weeks ago," Mr. Popovich said.
If Hostess does ultimately go out of business 18,000 people nationwide will lose their jobs.
