High Wind Warnings through 4pm
The remnants of the strongest hurricane to ever hit the northeast coast have been transformed into a powerful, huge and mean storm.
The center of Sandy has now moved into Pennsylvania and closer to us. Winds today will actually be stronger than those we saw yesterday - so today is not the day to get out and clean up those limbs and branches that have come down as we'll see more of the same and probably more coming down today. Stay away from tall and large trees as they will be a hazard right into at least mid-day on Wednesday. This is a slow moving storm system that will continue to be felt through at least Thursday.
Today, the High Wind Warnings remain in effect until 4 p.m. and the Lakeshore Floood Warning remains in effect through 8 p.m. Winds will actually be stronger than what we dealt with yesterday. Expect winds to gust up to 50 mph inland through mid-afternoon and to 60 mph along the southern shore of Lake Erie. The early snow and sleet will transition to all rain by late morning and at times the showers will come down at a pretty good clip. Expect periods of showers/rain to stick around right into late Wednesday.
The other issue for the day... there are a lot aren't there? Temps - they will struggle to get into the lower 40s this afternoon. With the howling winds you can bet Feels Like/Windchill Temps will be a factor. For most of the afternoon the apparent temps will not get much above the Freezing Mark - so bundle up!
The winds will begin to relax a tad overnight, but we will still see a windy day tomorrow with periods of showers and highs in the mid 40s. We should finally begin to say good ridence to Sandy by the time we get into Thursday as she takes her lingering nastiness off towards Newfoundland.
By Friday and the weekend, things look up with some sunshine and highs into the 50s. That would be the best time to really get after it and clean up the mess left in Sandy's wake. Be safe out there today.
