Monroe County Sheriff's investigating fatal traffic crash

BERLIN TOWNSHIP --

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal traffic crash that occurred on Bomiea Road south of Newport Road in Monroe County.

Accoridng to police, a 1993 Chevrolet Corsica passenger car was traveling northbound Bomiea Road, when the car traveled off the road into a cornfield.

The car continued traveling through the corn field for several hundred yards before it struck a tree and caught fire.

The driver of the passenger car was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver's name is not being released at this time. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.

The Berlin Township Fire Department along with Monroe Community Ambulance assisted at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call 734-240-7493.
