HOLLAND -- October 20, was Pit Bull Awareness Day. The Lucas County Pit Crew were celebrating with a free rabies clinic and costume contest.

The celebration took place at the Spring Meadows Plaza in Holland.

Tammy Davis, a volunteer with Lucas County Pit Crew commented about the event.

Davis said, "We are just here to have some fun, educate and provide some assistance for families who need help with vaccinating their animals."

Kirby, the puppy pit bull who, after being shot, had his front left leg amputated, made his first public appearance at the celebration.

Davis talked about his progress, saying, "…he is doing well, he is very lively. He is acting like just about any other puppy…he is getting around great with three legs…he is getting healthier everyday."

Kirby wore a Thor costume.
