Two Toledo men are among thousands of names detailed in the Boy Scout "Perversion Files" made public on Thursday.

Douglas A. Baker and Gerald Murray, Jr. were identified in the secret list of banned volunteers for alleged child sexual assault incidents between 1965 to 1985. According to the Miami New Times, scout leaders across the country fought to keep the records private and never reported many of the crimes.

An Oregon court ordered the files released under the state's open records law in the midst of a lawsuit brought by alleged victims, according to The Oregonian. The files detail 14,500 pages of alleged child abuse and molestation.

According to records, Baker was registered as a Webelos Leader in both Packs 211 and 99. He was found guilty of gross sexual imposition in the molestation of a 12-year-old Cub Scout in 1982.

Also in the records, Gerald Murray was registered as a Scoutmaster and Webelos Leader in Troop 136 in 1982. He was accused of molesting one of the scouts in Troop 294.

The records list 57 Ohio men as banned volunteers for alleged child molestation.

Ed Caldwell is the CEO of the Erie Shores Council of the Boy Scouts of America.  He says that there are many protocols in place that help to ensure greater safety for Boy Scouts.  "I want moms and dads to know that when you sign your kids up for scouting it is a safe environment," Mr. Caldwell said.  Boy Scout rules prohibit one adult from every being alone with scouts and local scout volunteers must report any allegation of improper physical conduct to local police.

Toledo attorney Gary Harden has three sons who all went through the scouting program.  "I have been very comfortable with having my children in the Scouts and being entrusted with the children of other parents," Mr. Harden said.
