COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Ohio's governor says a decision on whether to lease the Ohio Turnpike is coming down the road soon.

Gov. John Kasich says he's been looking at options that could bring the state more than $1 billion. He says a formal proposal on the northern Ohio toll road could be announced within the next month. The Columbus Dispatch reports that it's believed that the governor's administration is studying whether to lease the turnpike over a period of years or issuing bonds against it.

Kasich wants to use money from such a deal to pay for new transportation projects in the state.  But many officials in northern Ohio have come out against the idea because they fear a deal could increase tolls for drivers.
