It's that time of year when kids can't wait to become their favorite costume character for Halloween, but parents need to make sure that their little Hulk, princess, or zombie has a costume that is not only fun but safe.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued the following Halloween safety warnings when dressing up for Trick-or-treating.

"When purchasing costumes, masks, beards and wigs, look for flame resistant fabrics such as nylon or polyester or look for the label Flame Resistant," the report says. "Flame resistant fabrics will resist burning and should extinguish quickly. To minimize the risk of contact with candles and other fire sources, avoid costumes made with flimsy materials and outfits with big, baggy sleeves or billowing skirts."

The study also urges people to purchase or make costumes that are light, bright and clearly visible to motorists and to make sure to carry flashlights.

For the full list of recommendations go to the CPSC's website.
