TOLEDO -- Dr. Jerome Pecko, superintendent of Toledo Public Schools, says there is room for improvement in the district's graduation rate. "We had basically the same percentage on this report card as we did for last year," Dr. Pecko. Superintendent Pecko made those remarks after a preliminary repot card issued by the Ohio Department of Education showed the district made no marked improvement in graduation. Dr. Pecko says new initiatives are in place to improve graduation statistics. "One is the Americorps group that is working in all of our high schools and we have 36 young men who have been hired with a grant given to the United Way," Dr. Pecko said.
The full report card was originally scheduled to be released on August 29. It is being delayed while the Ohio Auditor's office completes and investigation into the district's attendance records.
