MILLBURY -- More than two years after a deadly tornado touched down in Lake Township, voters are being asked help fund the district's operations.

A 3-year levy is up for vote at Tuesday's special election in Wood county. The Lake Local School District is asking voters to approve a 6.75 mill operating levy that would commence this year and cover current expenses. The district says the money is needed to pay for teacher salaries and general school operations.

Community members attended an open house on Sunday for an unveiling of the newly built Lake High School. The school's previous building was destroyed by the June 2010 twister.

Last week, the Lake's board met to ask the county to include the levy on the November ballot should it fail in the special election. At the same meeting, the school board approved a contract freezing pay and increasing medical insurance costs for teachers.
