Lake Locals School Board met Wednesday morning to push a back up levy that officials say is necessary to pay for teacher salaries and general school operations.

The board asked the county auditor to certify a $6.75 mill operating levy on the Nov. 6 ballot, should the other levy up for a vote in August fail. Officials also approved a contract that freezes teacher pay and increases medical insurance costs for one year.

The meeting proceeded a tour of the new Lake High School building, which will welcome students on Aug. 21 for the first day of school. After the old facility was destroyed during an EF4 tornado two years ago, the district was able to fund the $25.5 million rebuilding project through insurance money and grants from the state.
