In the wake of incidents like the recent murder of a Perrysburg mother and two sisters in Blissfield, WNWO reached out to the owner of a local gun retailer to see if firearm sales were up.

Theresa Cleland says that she has seen an increase but believes it has more to do with the "political climate" in the country than the recent shootings.

Authorities in Colorado say that background checks, for those wanting to purchase guns, has gone up there are more than 40 percent.

Data supplied by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation shows that from the Friday, after the theater shooting,  through Sunday almost 3,000 people were approved to buy firearms.

That was a 43 percent increase over the previous Friday through Sunday.
