TOLEDO -- Monday afternoon a jury was sent out to deliberate the appropriate sentence for a Toledo man convicted of killing a Springfield Township couple.

But just before 7:00 p.m., WNWO was contacted by a source within the Lucas County Court system who said the jury had been sent home.

The jury deliberated for almost three hours before being let go. Their inability to recommend a sentence means that Judge Dean Mandros will impose Samuel Williams' sentence on August 10th.

According to The Blade, because the jury has failed to reach a decision the judge will not be able to impose the death penalty against Williams.

Earlier in the day, jurors were given the following choices for punishing Williams: a sentence of death, life in prison without parole, life in prison with parole eligibility after 30 years, or life in prison with parole eligibility after 25 years.

Last week, Williams was found guilty on all counts in the 2011 murders of Lisa Straub, 20, and Johnny Clarke, 21.

The charges included two counts of aggravated murder, two counts of kidnapping, and one count of aggravated burglary.
