After voters decided earlier this year to opt out of the TARTA public transportation system, Perrysburg's city council discussed replacement options during a meeting on Tuesday night.

The city council received a recommendation to put a 1.4 mill levy on the ballot this November to cover the cost of hiring an independent bus company.

This will cost residents of a $100,000 home about $44 a year. This money would fund the council's top three choices of service, according to Perrysburg officials.

"Our hope is that voters will see we've given them a choice that's low enough at 1.45 mills that voters will see the value in this new service, that it's half the cost in terms of dollars at TARTA and that the cost and better service will mean enough that they vote yes on November 6," Perrysburg Councilman Todd Grayson said.

Without a TARTA alternative, many residents like those living at Abundant Life of Perrysburg senior home won't be able to get around the city.

"Many of our residents do not have a car or they're no longer able to drive and they need to be able to get to doctors appointments, grocery stores, and hair appointments," said Liz Brown of Abundant Life of Perrysburg. "Without the service, they do not have the ability to get to various places that they need to get to."
