TOLEDO -- The finish line is near for Toledo's Raceway Park.

Penn National Gaming has formally asked the state for permission to relocate its racetracks in Toledo and suburban Columbus.  The company also wants to add slots like gambling to the new facilities.

The move shouldn't come as a surprise to folks, because the company said after voters approved casinos in Toledo and Columbus they planned to move the tracks, so they would not compete for players.

Raceway Park's operations would be moved to Dayton on the site of a shuttered auto plant.  The Columbus track would be moved to outside Youngstown.

Penn National hopes to break ground this fall on the tracks and open them in early 2014.
