BEREA -- The Ohio Turnpike Commission will be installing a concrete, safety barrier wall along the Ohio Turnpike in North Royalton near the York and Royalton Road bridge.

This work is part of the ongoing concrete base replacement project. It is also in direct response to concerns expressed by Rep. Mike Dovilla regarding neighbors who live below the Turnpike in that area.

"I am grateful that the Commission was open and receptive to our concerns. In addition to the added safety these barriers will provide, we are hopeful that replacing the guardrail with this new concrete barrier may provide some noise mitigation benefits to neighbors in this area." said Rep. Dovilla.

The barrier wall will be the same height as the bridge parapet and will extend from Milepost 166.6 to 165.4 in the westbound direction (north side of the road). Since it is part of a larger construction project, the wall will be finished along with the roadwork in October.

A barrier wall will also be added in the same area on the eastbound side of the turnpike when this project continues next year.

"We appreciate that Rep. Dovilla shared his residents' concerns and his diligence in working with us to explore what could be done for the constituents he represents," stated Commission Executive Director Rick Hodges. "We recognize that these safety barrier upgrades are important."
