BOWLING GREEN, OHIO -- Ohio Governor, John Kasich (R), paid a surprise visit to future political leaders in Bowling Green Friday, touting good news on the job front along the way.

New job numbers, out Friday morning, say professional, business, health, and education sectors are growing with 94,000 jobs being added in the state. The manufacturing sector has also improved, making Gov. Kasich proud of the state's diversity. "If a torpedo is launched, and hits one of our businesses, it's not going to sink us," Kasich said outside an event on the campus of Bowling Green State University.

In May, the number of unemployed Ohio workers dropped by about five thousand; however, nearly 462,000 Ohioans remain unemployed.

"We are not out of the woods," Kasich said. "In our state, the more we can provide an atmosphere where people who are job creators are comfortable in investing, the better we will do."

News on the state level was tempered Friday by tough news on the national front. Federal statistics show more Americans sought unemployment aid at the start of June with 386,000 Americans filing for first-time filed for first-time unemployment benefits. Once that number drops below 375,000, it typically suggests that hiring is strong enough to reduce the unemployment rate.
