CAMBRIDGE TOWNSHIP, MICH. (AP) -- State wildlife experts are investigating reports of an illegal carp in a Lenawee County lake.  The Department of Natural Resources says grass carp are considered a species of Asian carp but do not pose the same risk.

Nonetheless, grass carp eat important plants and can disrupt fish habitat. The DNR received a photo of a 3-foot-long fish from a fisherman on May 16. The dead fish could be 10 to 20 years old.

The DNR plans to check Marrs Lake with nets on June 18. The lake is in Lenawee County's Cambridge Township, 20 miles southeast of Jackson.  If fish are found, experts will determine if they are reproducing. Marrs Lake residents had a meeting Saturday with DNR fisheries biologist Todd Kalish.
