A mother and five children escaped a house fire on Cass Township Road 215 near Arcadia on Saturday night.

The American Red Cross of Hancock County provided the family with food, clothing, a portable crib and infant formula. The family had a place to stay for the evening, but the Red Cross will provide shelter if it becomes a need.

According to ARC, volunteers discovered that the family's husband and father is a service member currently deployed overseas. The Red Cross initiated an emergency communication to inform him of the situation.

All Red Cross disaster relief is provided free of charge, thanks to the generosity of the American people.  If you'd like to make a donation to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, visit www.hancockredcross.org, text "REDCROSS" to 90999 or call (419) 422-9322.
