TOLEDO -- A riverfront property is getting a $300,000 facelift, adding scenic Metropark to the downtown area.

Thursday the Rotary club celebrated its 100th Birthday by giving a monetary gift towards the development of Toledo’s first downtown Metropark, called the Middlegrounds.

The Middlegrounds Park will be developed along the west banks of the Maumee River, between the Anthony Wayne Bridge and Martin Luther King Plaza.

Metropark’s Executive Director Steve Madewell says that the project is a small part of a bigger riverfront improvement project.

“Here is this piece of property that we are envisioning a new future for and the opportunity for people to come down and enjoy the river front,” said Madewell

The project will come in addition of two riverfront improvement projects.  Renovation plans were announced in April for the former Toledo Edison Steam Plant, located up river, to be converted into a YMCA, University of Toledo Health Clinic and apartments. The City of Toledo Engineering and Parks and Forestry also have plans to give Promenade Park a facelift.
