TOLEDO -- A Toledo man has been sentenced to 90 days in a work release program for stabbing his dog with a knife six times.
31-year-old David Riling, Jr. was also given two years probation and ordered not to own an animal for the next five years. Last month, Riling changed his not guilty plea to no contest.
Riling stabbed his pit bull several times in October after the dog bit his hand while riling was trying to eat dinner. Riling called 9-1-1 and said he was going to kill the dog.
The animal was eventually put down. Rling could have received 6 months in jail.
Meanwhile, a Montana man is facing animal cruelty charges after police say he gave his dog vodka while sitting at a bar.
49-year-old Todd Schrier is accused of giving his dog so much vodka while the two sat at a bar together that the 20 pound Pomeranian couldn't walk.
Police say the dog's blood alcohol level at the time of the incident was about .35. An alcohol level of .4 can be fatal for humans.
Schrier plead not guilty and will now have to go to trial, the dog did recover.
