Schools will now be given the choice to buy 'pink slime' meat
 / WNWO Newsfile
Beginning this fall, school districts will be able to choose whether or not to buy hamburger with the gelatin-like material made from beef by products known as "pink slime".
The substance was only sold to dog food and cooking oil suppliers before the USDA ruled that it was fit for humans to eat if sprayed with ammonia.
So right now, it;s currently used as a filler in beef that is not labeled organic. But the government was criticized after it changed its ruling.
And many fast food restaurants such as McDonald's and Burger King, who had been using the "pink slime", have now stopped using the ammonia treated meat.
What do you think about this change? Do you think 'pink slime' beef should be banned all together? Would you let your kids eat school lunches if 'pink slime' meat was served? Post your comments below
